Gelmerbahn in Switzerland

The Gelmerbahn is one of the steepest funiculars that offers you inspiring mountainscape backdrops

Initially built in 1926 to transport building materials for the dam up top, the Gelmerbahn is now one of the steepest funiculars in Europe. It attracts thousands of visitors from all over the world. The best time to visit the Gelmerbahn is from June to mid-October.

Today, it can accommodate up to 24 passengers at a time and offer them unforgettable experiences. To be honest, this unique open-air ride is not for the faint-hearted—if you are afraid of heights, think twice before buying a ticket (we’re kidding!). The journey lasts ten minutes, with a pace of two meters per second. At its steepest point, the track slopes at a 106% gradient and doesn’t allow you to catch your breath even for a second. But it’s definitely worth it! The emotions you feel during the journey are remarkable and never to be forgotten. The ticket price for adults is $16 one-way and $32 return. It’s better to buy them online to avoid the queue.
