If you happen to be in Ibiza between the 21st and 24th of June, make sure to attend one of the few local festivals—the feast of Sant Joan (San Juan) or Saint John. On that day, the local community takes part in solemn mass and later a parade from the church to the town hall square, where Ibizans welcome the summer through fiery performances that are believed to drive off evil spirits and symbolize rebirth and purification. This exciting celebration is topped with colorful evening fireworks.
Sant Joan Party in Sant Joan de Labritja
Sant Joan de Labritja on the north of the island is usually a peaceful town. But not during the huge Sant Joan Party. The town celebrates its patron saint with lots of loud music, fireworks, and a street party on the Plaza. Visitors can shop at the arts and crafts fair and see traditional puppet shows, At the end of the day, nine bonfires present the challenge for all revelers who want to purify themselves with holy fire.
Sant Joan in Eivissa
Another large celebration is held in Ibiza Town ( Eivissa). A large musical concert, games, and competitions are held at various locations. After dark, everyone is heading to the beaches. Talamanca and Figueretas beaches have bonfires, barbecues, macarons de Sant Joan, as well as live music until the early hours of the morning.
In Sant Antoni, all the fun is concentrated around Arenal beach where bonfires draw people until early morning. The holiday is also celebrated in Santa Eulalia and Sant Rafael. St John's Day celebrations take place all over Spain, especially in the regions of Valencia and Catalonia.
