It would be surprising if the highest British mountains were anywhere else, but the Scottish Highlands. The highest one called Ben Nevis is located in the western part of Grampian Mountains—a real treasure for hiking enthusiasts. Every year over a hundred thousand hikers reaches the summit with the altitude of 1,344 m above the sea. The best time to ascend it runs from spring to early summer, namely between April and July. Apart from mild weather conditions, the biggest benefit of the season is the absence of intrusive midges which are particularly boresome and plentiful in late summer and fall.
