The month of July is when baby turtles use their special tooth to break free of their shells and crawl down the beach to the sea. Although this is usually a night time event, the Kemp Ridley sea turtles, found here in Bora Bora, often do this during the day making it possible to see them on their first journey. One of the best places to experience baby turtles hatching season is Le Meredien Hotel's Turtle Center. The center was created in 2000 to help protect sea turtles and other marine life of Bora Bora. Visitors can visit the center briefly or send the whole day there volunteering and helping the staff of the Turtle Center to take care of the hatchlings.
