The spectacular Adirondack Mountains are the premier hiking destination in the state of New York. Home of iconic lakes, waterfalls, and high peaks, the Adirondacks can be best explored in the summer. In addition to dozens of lake hikes, visitors can explore the nature of the Adirondacks on a canoe or a kayak, try fishing, swimming, or camping overnight. Beach season on the lake runs from June to Labor Day in early September. While the most beautiful time of the year is when the leaves change their color, the fall foliage season peaks in the last two weeks of September.

Lake George

Often called the Queen of American Lakes, Lake George is one of the cleanest and largest lakes of New York that stretches for 32 mi (52 km). It was admired by Thomas Jefferson and numerous American artists and writers. Summer is the perfect time to explore the Lake George area hiking trails, take a scenic cruise on the lake, or hit its beautiful beaches. Try Million Dollar State Beach in Lake George Village, Shepard Park, or Usher Park Beach. You can also go boating, kayaking, rafting, tubing, or stand-up paddleboarding. Renting a yacht or a fishing boat is also possible.

Lake Placid

Lake Placid in the northern Adirondacks and nearby Saranac Lake and Tupper Lake, form the so-called Tri-Lakes region. The Lake Placid region offers excellent biking, bird and wildlife watching, hiking, and fly-fishing in the Ausable River. One of the most popular spots to enjoy swimming and sunbathing or to rent a kayak is Lake Placid Public Beach in downtown Lake Placid.

Saranac Lake

Saranac Lake is another beautiful destination to spend time outdoors. Lake Clear Beach boasts immaculate water and is popular with families.
